TWICE IN 24 HOURS GOD BLESSED US WITH AN OVER-THE-TOP EXAMPLE OF HIS LOVE, LAVISHED UPON US FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN HE LOVES TO DELIGHT US WITH THE WORK OF HIS HANDS.
We were on our way over to Gig Harbor for another night at Arrabela’s Landing, minding our own business and simply enjoying the sun, the wind, the view of Mount Rainier, the water, and family. Ross was at the wheel doing his “captain thing” and all of a sudden a splash broke the silence. Again, another splash towards the back of the boat. It wasn’t long before the cause of the sound made herself known… A porpoise… Playful and feisty, she proceeded to race us, dip under the bow while we looked for her on the port side, coming to the surface on the starboard side. We would be looking ahead for her and she jumped out of the water behind us.
I could imagine her thoughts,
“Boy, I’ve got these humans coming and going! Watch this!”
We were all so excited, we could barely contain ourselves, squeals of delight erupted from my lips and laughter abounded as she entertained us with her antics.
Then I remembered how much I whined back in August of 2014 when Ross left for their annual Holtz week-long boys boat trip. Not only because we were newlyweds and I didn’t want him to leave me for 7 whole days, but also as I began to see the photos and videos on Facebook, no denying it, I was envious! They had a porpoise racing them all the way to Gig Harbor… No fair that I missed out on that (lower lip pouting)! I was sure that was a once in a lifetime experience I’d never see for myself.
It wasn’t too long before the Lord reminded me of what a special bonding moment that was for them. A memory made for a lifetime with those boys and I was having a pity party?
I surrendered my desire and rejoiced with them from afar, never hoping that it would ever happen again. So imagine my surprise when what Ross believes is the same porpoise paid us a visit … not only going to Gig Harbor but returning from as well!
Just another amazing example of our Father in Heaven who loves to delight us, surprise us, and encouraged us with simple gifts that bring joy to our hearts.
P.S. I was on the boat yesterday, and really needed to get this out of my head and onto paper, but there was no paper on the boat…so I found the next best thing… worked great! 🙂
