Did you know God is enthusiastic AND He delights in YOU?

Did you know God is enthusiastic AND He delights in YOU?

I love it when God says the same thing in two completely different devotionals on the very same day.

On the heels of being reminded of the 5 Vows from Tozer’s Deeper Life, of the prayer asking Him to glorify Himself in my life, another Tozer compilation of his comments on the Almighty God brings things into focus.

Our Enthusiastic God

The joy of the LORD is your strength. —NEHEMIAH 8:10

God is boundlessly enthusiastic. I’m glad somebody is because I don’t find very many Christians who are. If they are, they’re not enthusiastic about the things that matter. If they’re going to a movie, they can get all steamed up about that. If they’re going on a moonlight cruise, they get all worked up over that. But if you just say, “Look, look, behold God, behold God!” you can’t get much enthusiasm.

God is enthusiastic. He’s enthusiastic for Himself in the Persons in the Godhead. The Persons of the Godhead are infinitely delighted with each other. The Father is infinitely delighted with the Son, and the Son is infinitely delighted with the other two Persons of the Godhead. He is delighted with His whole creation, and especially with men made in His image. Unbelief comes and throws a cloud over us and shuts out the light of God, and we don’t believe that God is delighted, infinitely delighted with us.

And here’s a little prayer that was made by Lady Julian:

O God, of Thy goodness, give me Thyself, for Thou art enough for me, and I may ask nothing that is less and find any full honors to Thee. God give me Thyself!

Almighty God, too often Your church is unenthusiastic about You and what You have done. Revive our hearts so that we may rejoice in You and show the world how incredible You truly are. Amen.

I admit I struggle with believing that God is delighted with me. My 13 years of spiritual abuse by an angry, controlling, manipulating false shepherd kept me far from this truth and even today it is a little hard to take in.

But that prayer by Lady Julian helps me as I reflect on how God has become enough for me …

O God, of Thy goodness, give me Thyself, for Thou art enough for me, and I may ask nothing that is less and find any full honors to Thee. God give me Thyself!

On this same day as I read my Logos Bible Software devotional by Oswald Chambers I was so encouraged to see a similar refrain:

When I pray—‘Lord, show me what sanctification means for me,’ He will show me. It means being made one with Jesus. Sanctification is not something Jesus Christ puts into me: it is Himself in me. (My Utmost for His Highest, July 22).

Pondering the truth of Him in us, the cry of my heart is that I would intentionally make room for Him. In my heart, my thoughts, my desires … giving full honor to Him as He answers that prayer.

Do you struggle with believing that He is delighted in you? What caused that belief within you?

Perhaps today take a moment and reflect on Psalm 18:19.

He brought you out into a broad place;
He rescued you because He delighted in you.

Now think back to the place you have been rescued from and rejoice in where you are today.

For me… my rescue from spiritual abuse has found me leading a team of women as we work together helping authors bring their message to the world while traveling the country teaching and encouraging others.

Oh, that I would see these opportunities as His enthusiastic delight in me. As I in turn honor Him with all I do.

Thanks for spending time with me today.

Athena Dean Holtz
Welcome, I'm Athena!

I start each day by tithing the first hour to the Lord in prayer, reading the word, doing word studies of the Text, and asking God how I can live out what I am reading. This time is usually met with meditation on devotionals that are usually written by dead guys like Oswald Chambers, CS Lewis, Charles Spurgeon, AW Tozer, and Andrew Murray.

Right now, I’m reading a daily devotional with a friend called Tozer on the Almighty God for my focus for the day. It's fun to see individually what pulls us in to spur one another on to good deeds!

The Bible is filled with action steps to walk out in practical and intentional ways. This sets my day in motion to walk it out! I hope this is your heart, too.

Consider this a personal invitation to join me in this journey!
