Have you ever heard a song that just wouldn’t go away?

The lyrics seep into your soul and evoke an emotion that is hard to shake… the melody rings in your heart as your mind begins to stir and sleep runs away and hides in the early morning hours.

That’s what’s been happening with me ever since our ladies’ retreat at The Summit where we experienced the Story Rope Ministry by The Creative Call. The theme song for this segment of our retreat was “My Story” by Big Daddy Weave and I just can’t get it out of my head.

This last weekend I spent all day Saturday preparing four sessions where I’ll share my story this weekend at a ladies’ retreat whose theme is “Through it All …. He is Faithful.” As I began to break up my story into four segments, along with the lessons learned, all the instruction, correction and rewards God brought my way, and all the ways God proved Himself faithful, I was moved to tears over and over again as I remembered. As I wept, my heart overflowed with gratitude:

  • For His grace that was greater than all my sin,
  • For the kindness of Jesus that drew me in,
  • For victory over the enemy and
  • For His love that never gave up.

As a waterfall of gratitude flowed into generosity towards the ladies I will serve this weekend, a truth that my pastor-husband pointed out in his most recent sermon on gratitude resonated in my soul. A grateful heart will produce generosity. One begets the other. It’s inevitable. Our gratitude for what God has done for us will prompt us to be generous towards our loved ones, friends, our local church family, the least of these, even our enemies. Generous with forgiveness, prayer, grace, love, acts of service, a listening ear, our time and resources.

Every time I go back and look at what God has done in my life, even with the darkest times and most devastating wrong choices, the redemption He has worked and the justice and restoration has been nothing short of breathtaking. As I ponder all He has done, I can only praise Him for His faithfulness…and that, my friend, fills my heart with gratitude.

My Story – Big Daddy Weave

If I told you my story

You would hear Hope that wouldn’t let go

And if I told you my story

You would hear Love that never gave up

And if I told you my story

You would hear Life, but it wasn’t mine

If I should speak then let it be

Of the grace that is greater than all my sin

Of when justice was served and where mercy wins

Of the kindness of Jesus that draws me in

Oh to tell you my story is to tell of Him

If I told you my story

You would hear victory over the enemy

And if I told you my story

You would hear freedom that was won for me

And if I told you my story

You would hear Life overcome the grave

If I should speak then let it be

Of the grace that is greater than all my sin

Of when justice was served and where mercy wins

Of the kindness of Jesus that draws me in

Oh to tell you my story is to tell of Him

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long

For the grace that is greater than all my sin

Of when justice was served and where mercy wins

Of the kindness of Jesus that draws me in

Oh to tell you my story is to tell

For the grace that is greater than all my sin

Of when justice was served and where mercy wins

Of the kindness of Jesus that draws me in

Oh to tell you my story is to tell of Him

Oh to tell you my story is to tell of Him

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long
