I’ll be returning to my MLM in the Church series next week, but in the meantime, I’ve been pondering how God has worked in 2015 and looking forward to the New Year with thoughtfulness and anticipation.

The Lord is taking me out of my comfort zone in more than one area in my life, so I need His wisdom more than ever. My prayer for 2016 is based on a portion of Psalm 25 and I trust it may be a timely prayer for someone else as well…

Psalm 25:4-15 (NCV)

Lord, tell me your ways.
Show me how to live.

Oh God of Heaven, how I need You to tell me Your ways for 2016 and show me how to live them out. Your ways are not my ways, nor are Your thoughts my thoughts…so renew my mind to Your ways that I might know how to live in a way that pleases You.

Guide me in your truth,
and teach me, my God, my Savior.
I trust you all day long.

I have decisions to make, course corrections to apply, prioritizing to refine, so I really need You to guide me in Your truth, and teach me…You are my God and my Savior, and because of that I choose to trust You all day and every day, no matter where You take me on my journey this year.

Lord, remember your mercy and love
that you have shown since long ago.

I thank You, Lord, for the mercy and love that You have shown me, yes, since long ago, but more dramatically in the last four years. As You guide me in 2016, Lord, please remember that mercy and love and please continue to spread it throughout my life.

Do not remember the sins
and wrong things I did when I was young.
But remember to love me always
because you are good, Lord.

Oh Lord, You know all the sins, blunders, errors in judgment, and wrong things I have done, many of which have deeply hurt others whom I love. I thank You that You don’t remember them, but instead You remember to love me always because You are good, Lord. Oh God, help me to remember Your love for me and the truth of Your goodness, no matter what I must face in 2016.

The Lord is good and right;
he points sinners to the right way.

Thank You, Lord, that You are good and right, and that You do point us in the right way. Help me not to harden my heart when You choose to point me in a way I don’t really want to go. Help me to be sensitive to Your prompting and accept the right way You choose for me.

He shows those who are humble how to do right,
and he teaches them his ways.

Oh Lord, I pray for a humble heart in 2016, so that I am teachable. I don’t want to be stubborn, needing a bit or a bridle for You to force me, but instead a sensitive heart that responds to Your whisper. I want to learn Your ways more and more, to be shown how to do right in Your eyes.

10 All the Lord’s ways are loving and true
for those who follow the demands of his agreement.

I thank You, Lord, that when I am obedient and follow Your commands, I see Your ways as loving and true.

11 For the sake of your name, Lord,
forgive my many sins.

Lord, I want to glorify Your Name in 2016. So for the sake of Your Name, please continue to forgive my many sins and continue to conform me to the likeness of Your Son.

12 Are there those who respect the Lord?
He will point them to the best way.

Help me, Lord, to respect You, to honor You, to revere You, and as a result I thank You in advance for pointing me to the best way this coming new year.

13 They will enjoy a good life,
and their children will inherit the land.

I thank You that as You point me to the best way, I will continue to enjoy a good life. As a mother I’ve failed in many ways over the last 37 years, so I pray that You will work all things together for good for my children, in spite of my shortcomings.

14 The Lord tells his secrets to those who respect him;
he tells them about his agreement.

Lord, I thank You in advance for sharing Your secrets with me as I respect and honor You with my life. I thank You for giving me insight into Your Word and Your ways as I continue to grow in You in 2016.

15 My eyes are always looking to the Lord for help.
He will keep me from any traps.

And finally, I choose in 2016 to keep You, Lord, ever before me. To always look to You for help, and in doing so, I thank You that You will keep me from any traps the enemy may set for me. I thank You that keeping my eyes on You this year will help me keep all doors closed to the enemy and help me to discern his strategies and traps and avoid them.

In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.

May we all follow Him wholeheartedly in this new year and watch Him work in mighty ways! Happy New Year, friends!

  • As we look back over this past year we thank You for Your goodness to us—far beyond what we have deserved. May we never presume on Your past goodness or forget all Your mercies to us, but may they instead lead us to repentance, and to a new commitment to make You the foundation and center of our lives this year.
